“We started in 2020 to protect the mental health of young people during times of transition. Today, we’re focused on reducing harm in the digital age.”

Our Mission
The Paper Bag Mask Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting young people’s mental health in the digital age. Today, teens and 20-somethings face unique challenges from AI, digital platforms, and social isolation. Our mission is to reduce harm, prepare for the future, and help young people access real human support. We strive to make an impact by:
Spotlighting the Issues - Raising awareness about how AI misuse, misinformation, and algorithm-driven platforms’ impact mental health
Providing the Tools - Offering education and family-focused resources to help teens and parents navigate the digital world safely
Connecting & Supporting - Offering free and affordable access to therapy and preserving spaces where young people can build community
Paper Bag Mask Inc. is a Massachusetts-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
What is a “Paper Bag Mask”?
1 In 5 Americans Experiences A Mental Illness…
We all know someone who wears a mask whether we realize it or not.
This mask may manifest as a fake smile, hiding our true feelings, or pretending we are okay when we want to break down.
It’s worn so our loved ones and peers don’t know we are hurting on the inside so we won’t feel like a burden. It’s worn to avoid criticism, labels, and judgment.
